What is a "default"?
There are two "default" things in Keysight to configure:
- The default preset
- A custom camera angle
There used to be more (such as a default Pulse, default Particle, etc), so this menu is somewhat vestigial.
Note
Most users will never need to worry about defaults. Unless you're trying to do something really spicy with the Randomizer or 3D angles, don't worry too much about this menu!
Default preset
The default preset is the preset generated when "Add preset" is clicked in the upper right of the menu. It is also used as the baseline preset for the Randomizer.
Clicking the Set current preset as default will overwrite the default preset with the currently selected preset. This is stored on the System settings file. Under stock configuration, the default preset is "Plain (default)" as bundled with Keysight.
Custom camera angle
This is a highly niche aspect of Manual layout with 3D camera angles. The custom camera angle is the angle that can be rapidly reset to using Ctrl + i
or the button inside Core > Visual Layout > Manual, and is intended to let you save a known-good angle before further changing settings.
Tips and tricks
Saving editing time
Using a different default preset can be useful if there are certain preset settings you always want different to stock, and want to save editing time. An example could be something like Scene lighting being disabled.
Controlling the Randomizer
This is covered in more detail here(*), but as the Randomizer starts from the default preset, changing the default preset can control certain non-randomized elements such as Light bars.
